San Francisco Art Dealer Mayer Flaks Adds to Emergency Kit

There are many suggestions on the internet on what should be included in an individual's emergency preparedness kit. Instead of buying a commercial kit, San Francisco art dealer Mayer Flaks had created his own. Mayer Flaks lives in San Francisco, California where the risk and threat of an earthquake is an everyday reality. But, for the most part, Mayer Flaks lives comfortably believing no tragedy will affect him.

After witnessing the Boston bombings, Mayer Flaks decided it would be beneficial for him to add to his emergency kit. Since the threat of home grown terrorists is not as much a theory and a more of a fact, Mayer Flaks decided it would be in his best interest to make sure he had plenty of the gauze, medical tape, and disinfectants necessary to be keep wounds clean. In addition to changing old batteries in the kit, Mayer Flaks added solar operated lights so he would have less to worry about if San Francisco were to lose power.

Mayer Flaks

Mayer Flaks lives and works in San Francisco as an art dealer. He is not a paranoid doomsday fanatic, but based on the suggestions and warnings of FEMA and other emergency organizations, Mayer Flaks figured it is better to be safe than sorry. Yet for all his prepping, Mayer Flaks knows there are many variables that are called into play during an emergency including the reactions of his neighbors and others in his community.

For himself, Mayer Flaks figured all he could do was prepare general medical supplies to cover a range of emergencies and have a plan of action. Mayer Flaks isn't out to save the world, but he hopes to be able to save himself and if possible others. Mayer Flaks hopes others in his community will prepare as well and assist each other in an emergency just as people did in Boston.

Blood Donated by San Francisco Art Dealer Mayer Flaks

Mayer Flaks is not a marathon runner but after witnessing the two bombings at the Boston marathon in 2013, he realized how easy it is for unforeseen tragedy to strike. It also made San Francisco art dealer Mayer Flaks aware that in moments of extreme emergency, hospitals may not always have an adequate blood supply if people don't donate enough blood before an emergency. Being healthy and capable of donating blood, Mayer Flaks decided it was once again time for him to donate his own blood to help save others.

Although it was the unfortunate bombings that reminded Mayer Flaks of the importance of donating blood, he knew his blood would not be used to help the victims. In fact, Mayer Flaks blood would not even be leaving the State of California. But, Mayer Flaks is proud of himself for willingly going to the Red Cross. He likes to think that in some persons' life, he will forever be an unknown hero.

Mayer Flaks

Mayer Flaks doesn't live the life of a philanthropist. He does make charitable contributions, but for the most part, he is an aspiring art dealer in San Francisco. Living in a large and famous city, Mayer Flaks can only image what it would be like to be targeted for a terrorist attack. Unfortunately, the reality is all too real. Mayer Flaks donates his blood hoping that it will not be necessary to use, but in an emergency, it is there to save one or more lives.

Mayer Flaks admits he is not a fan of needles. That is why for so long, he did not donate blood. It took the Boston bombings to remind him that tragedy is possible and not limited to cities a world away. Mayer Flaks isn't sure he'll donate every 56 days, as is possible through the Red Cross, but he is sure he will donate more often.

Americans for the Arts and San Francisco Art Dealer Mayer Flaks

San Francisco art dealer Mayer Flaks does what he can to promote art and art education in America. Today, education is highly prioritized by field and specialty and many people view art as being little more than a waste of time and money for schools and government funding. But there are many professionals and organizations trying to point out the benefit of art programs in schools and communities.

Mayer Flaks is an art dealer in San Francisco, California. Within his community, Mayer Flaks knows there are many talented artists both young and old. Many artists flock to the city but unfortunately, art programs are still being cut nationwide. Mayer Flaks believes that organizations like Americans for the Arts try to keep the art industry alive.

Mayer Flaks

Mayer Flaks believes in the organization partly because his own career is tied directly to artists, but also because many intelligent and world-changing individuals were artists. Mayer Flaks often points out to people that artists have played a pivotal role in shaping our world.

Mayer Flaks hopes that supporting programs and organizations like Americans for the Arts, more people will see the benefits of art. As much as mathematics and science is important, people idolize actors and singers who by definition, are artists. However, Mayer Flaks’s specialty is fine arts. He often attends art festivals both in San Francisco and other large art fairs and festivals around the country.

There have been a number of programs that have sprung up in the defense of art. Art is even used for its therapeutic properties. Mayer Flaks does not donate to each art program out there but he hopes that others will help further the education of how beneficial art is. His and others' goal is that art will not be eliminated completely from schools since for so long it was an integral part of helping students be creative in learning.

Hiking Resumed by San Francisco Art Dealer Mayer Flaks

San Francisco art dealer Mayer Flaks enjoys staying busy and going for walks all year long but some seasons are not a good time to go hiking particularly along mountain paths. Mayer Flaks doesn't go hiking when it is cold nor when it has been raining for long periods of time. The risk of paths being wet or slippery means a higher risk of slipping, falling, or other injury causing accidents.

However, now that the weather is warming up and leaves are open on the trees, Mayer Flaks has resumed taking his occasional mountain hike. Hiking in the spring allows Mayer Flaks to enjoy the smell of new plants as well as view the blooms of wild flowers growing in undisturbed areas not overshadowed by the woods.

San Francisco art dealer Mayer Flaks looks forward to his first spring hike every year. This year, Mayer Flaks was more excited than usual because he has started a new hobby for himself. Mayer Flaks has decided to take up photography. And not just any type of photography, Mayer Flaks wants to try his hand at landscape and wildlife photography. Mayer Flaks decided his spring walk would be a great opportunity to take some landscape photographs.

Now that Mayer Flaks is once again hiking, he knows he will lose some of the weight gained through the winter and over the holiday season. It is no secret that Mayer Flaks enjoys good food and in San Francisco, there are plenty of places to get good eats. However, thanks to the resumption of his walks and monitoring his portion size, Mayer Flaks has already lost weight gained over the winter months.

Mayer Flaks hopes to continue hiking with friends throughout the summer months. An additional benefit, Mayer Flaks has planned a trip to Alaska where he looks forward to any hiking he can do.

Weight Lost by San Francisco Art Dealer Mayer Flaks’s Increased Walks

Many people know they are prone to putting on a couple of pounds over the winter months. Cold or nasty weather keeps you inside where you are less likely to walk around aimlessly and more prone to finding sedentary methods of entertainment. Although San Francisco art dealer Mayer Flaks enjoys being healthy, he too falls victim to seasonal weight gain. However, Mayer Flaks works hard to shed the weight every spring.

Once the San Francisco weather started to warm up enough that Mayer Flaks could walk outside comfortably, he began increasing the lengths of his walks. Even more beneficial is Mayer Flaks ability to resume his love for hiking. Thanks to the increased amount of time Mayer Flaks walks along the San Francisco beach and his get-a-ways to hike mountain paths, Mayer Flaks has already lost five pounds.

While this may not seem like a lot, it makes a considerable difference to a person who is used to being in shape. Mayer Flaks does not beat himself up over his seasonal weight gain. He is used to it just as he knows his regular spring, summer, and fall recreational routines will help him lose the weight and keep it off the majority of the year.

Because he is so active in his personal time, Mayer Flaks doesn't bother joining a gym. He is well-aware a gym membership will allow him to exercise all year long in order to avoid winter weight gain, but Mayer Flaks is not ready to commit himself to gym membership fees just yet. Mostly, it is because Mayer Flaks knows three-quarters of the year he would not be using the gym. For now, Mayer Flaks is happy with his routine of walking along the beach. It is the physical recreation he enjoys most and he sees no reason to change his routine anytime soon.

San Francisco Art Dealer Mayer Flaks Cooks Medieval Meals

San Francisco art dealer Mayer Flaks enjoys good food and many of the best meals are once made right at home. Mayer Flaks enjoys home cooking because each meal and be customized to fit his particular taste. Recently, Mayer Flaks purchased "A Feast of Ice and Fire: The Official Game of Thrones Companion Cookbook," to create meals based on the fictional kingdoms found in the "Game of Thrones" HBO series.

Mayer Flaks has many positive things to say about this cookbook. As the official cookbook inspired by the series, it is high quality and very well put together. Many of the ingredients are easy to procure and in some cases, substitutions are necessary as the old world animals may not be available or extinct. Since the recipes are based off of historic recipes, sauces may need to be made before hand. Ultimately, Mayer Flax knows recreating a medieval meal means lots of preparation time.

There no recipes in the book that can quickly be popped in the microwave. Mayer Flaks knows some of the recipes sound bazaar but there are a lot of pie, soup, and even beverage recipes. Even better, Mayer Flaks can choose to recreate the medieval recipe or opt for the sometimes easier "modern" recipe.

While there are vegetable and fruit recipes, Mayer Flaks noticed the cookbook is very heavy on meat dishes. For anyone who ever considered what people ate during medieval times, the television series inspired cookbook is a great point of reference. Mayer Flaks found the snippets of actual recipes interesting even if interpreting the old English was difficult.

For anyone who likes cooking, Mayer Flaks highly recommends this unique cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow and Mayer Flaks has yet to find a recipe he disliked. For anyone who enjoys being creative in the kitchen, San Francisco art dealer Mayer Flaks recommends purchasing the book or buying it for a friend.

Many of the recipes are time consuming to make.
